Hello — I’m Andrew Hay, author of several cosy mystery series including Demelza Pascoe, Saffron Tate, Dafydd Jones & Dolgwyn, Ashcombe Cars, and Harcourt & Hemlock. If it involves humour, quirky characters, a little mischief, and the occasional dead body, you’ll probably find me somewhere nearby with a notebook.

I also write humorous science fiction under the delightfully chaotic pen name Rufus Wibble — a name chosen because it neatly captures the tone of those stories: playful, slightly ridiculous, and not entirely safe to read near hot beverages.

What I Write

Cosy Mysteries: Warm, funny, and murdery (in a gentle sort of way).

Sci-Fi as Rufus Wibble: Sentient luggage, confused robots, and interstellar politics.

Thrillers: When I feel like turning off the lights and scaring myself.

Short Stories: Usually written when I’m supposed to be doing something else.

Across everything I write, the common threads are humour, character, and a firm belief that stories should be fun — even when someone’s been killed by a swede.

Who I Am (the short version)

I’m a writer based in the West Country, usually found surrounded by books, tea, and the firm conviction that commas are trickier than murder investigations.
I’ve published more than thirty books across multiple genres and show no signs of slowing down — partially because my characters object strongly when ignored.
