Hello — I’m Andrew Hay, author of 49 published books in several cosy mystery series including Demelza Pascoe, Saffron Tate, Dafydd Jones & Dolgwyn, Ashcombe Cars, Lagwick Green and Harcourt & Hemlock, with more to come in 2027. If it involves humour, quirky characters, a little mischief, and the occasional dead body, you’ll probably find me somewhere nearby with a notebook.

My cosy mysteries are character-led stories with humour, quirky communities, a little mischief and, inevitably, the occasional dead body. From Norfolk villages and Welsh valleys to classic cars, food, wine and Cornwall, each series has its own world and its own cast of characters to get to know.

I also write humorous science fiction under the delightfully chaotic pen name Rufus Wibble — a name chosen because it neatly captures the tone of those stories: playful, slightly ridiculous, and not entirely safe to read near hot beverages.

What I Write

Cosy Mysteries: Warm, funny, and murdery (in a gentle sort of way).

Sci-Fi as Rufus Wibble: Sentient luggage, confused robots, and interstellar politics.

Thrillers: When I feel like turning off the lights and scaring myself.

Short Stories: Usually written when I’m supposed to be doing something else.

Whatever I’m writing, the things that matter most to me are character, humour and story. I want my books to be places readers enjoy spending time — whether they are solving a murder in a village, investigating a mystery over a glass of wine, or venturing somewhere rather further from home.

There are plenty more stories still to come.
